Oral hygiene
It’s a cliché that in today’s fast-paced world we spend little time on our own health, but practical experience shows that oral hygiene has unfortunately taken a back seat. The problem is not necessarily with attention – even the most thorough person can suffer from oral hygiene problems. Diet, smoking, coffee consumption or simply the characteristics of our mouth / teeth (deep grooves, tight teeth, etc…) can all cause oral hygiene problems. Have your teeth and oral hygiene checked regularly at Dentys dental practice! At Dentys, we place particular importance on the prevention of dental problems and the rapid, gentle treatment of minor symptoms. Our oral hygiene services not only improve the health of your mouth and teeth, but also your aesthetics.
The process of teeth whitening
1. Diagnostic assessment and consultation: before the procedure, the dentist will examine the patient’s teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy. Cleaning or treatment is recommended if necessary, as whitening is only effective on healthy teeth.
2. Teeth cleaning: the dentist removes plaque and tartar from the teeth, as these can interfere with the bleaching agent. A clean tooth surface ensures a better result.
3. Applying a protective layer to the gums: the substances used in teeth whitening can be strong, so the gums are coated with a special protective layer to protect them from possible irritation by the bleaching agent.
4. Bleaching agent application: the dentist applies the bleaching agent, usually a gel based on hydrogen peroxide or urea peroxide, to the teeth. This substance penetrates the tooth enamel and whitens the discolouration of the teeth through an oxidation reaction.
5. Activation (optional): in some methods, the bleaching agent is activated by light, laser or heat, which speeds up its action. Treatment time is usually 15-60 minutes.
At the end of the treatment, the bleach is removed and the dentist will advise you on further care and how to maintain the result. More sessions may be necessary achieve the desired whiteness.
Frequently asked questions
What causes tooth discolouration?
Tooth discolouration can be caused by a number of factors, such as food and drink (coffee, tea, red wine), smoking, medicines or the ageing process. The discolouration can be superficial (e.g. due to plaque or tartar) or caused by pigments deposited deeper in the inner layers of the tooth.
How long does the whitening procedure take?
Professional teeth whitening usually takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the method used. In some cases, more than one session may be necessary to achieve the desired whiteness.
What results can be achieved?
Teeth whitening can result in teeth that are several, up to 5-10 shades lighter. The result will depend on the initial condition of the teeth and the type of discolouration, but dental procedures usually provide spectacular and long-lasting whiteness.
Is the Beyond whitening system safe?
Yes, the Beyond whitening system is safe because it is clinically tested and used under dental supervision. The system uses special light technology that minimises damage to tooth enamel and reduces sensitivity during treatment.
Why is home whitening not effective?
Home whitening products often contain weaker active ingredients than professional procedures and therefore cannot provide as strong results. In addition, inappropriate use can cause irritation to the gums or tooth enamel, and whitening can also be uneven.
