About orthodontics
Orthodontics is a discipline concerned with correcting abnormalities of the teeth and jaws. The aim is not only to create a regular and aesthetic set of teeth, but also to adjust the position of the upper and lower jawbones in relation to each other.
This is important because misaligned teeth and jaws can lead to:
- overusing of the periodontal ligament, which can cause premature tooth loss,
- speech problems and difficulty chewing,
- jaw joint complaints (pain, clicking).
The process of orthodontic treatment
During the first two consultations, we will assess your needs and see if orthodontic treatment is medically or aesthetically necessary. Photographs and impressions will be taken, and Dentyst specialists will use these to prepare a treatment plan. Together with the patient, we discuss the process and begin treatment. If necessary, cavities are filled and tartar is removed. Before placing the brackets, all our patients are informed about complications and side effects. Every 4-6 weeks, we check the braces that have been fitted, replacing the wire, springs, rubber bands if necessary. Each time we take photos of the current condition, which are part of the documentation. Before removing the braces, we take control x-rays, evaluate the position of the teeth and finally remove the braces.
Orthodontic treatment may require the involvement of an additional specialist, e.g. speech therapist, periodontist, otorhinolaryngologist, etc., if our dentist think it is necessary.
What kind of orthodontic methods are available in our dental practice in Győr?
Removable braces
Removable braces allow the patient to remove and instal the appliance themselves.
They are mainly used to correct minor tooth movement and are usually used in cases of children.
Being able to remove them is a great advantage as it can be easily removed for eating and cleaning, making it more comfortable to wear.
Fixed metal braces
Traditional fixed metal braces use durable metal brackets and arches that provide accurate and reliable tooth movement.
These appliances provide continuous correction and are generally considered one of the most effective solutions for complex dental problems.
Although they are more visible, metal braces can be more affordable.
Fixed aesthetic braces
Aesthetic fixed braces are just as effective as the metal versions, but are much less visible thanks to their porcelain or ceramic material.
These braces work in a similar way to metal appliances, but blend in with the colour of the teeth.
This is a popular option for those looking for a more discreet treatment.
Fixed self-ligating metal braces
Self-ligating braces have special locks that keep the braces more flexible on the teeth, eliminating the need for traditional rubber bands.
This makes the treatment faster and easier to keep the braces clean.
This type is often more comfortable as it puts less pressure on the teeth.
Fixed aesthetic self-ligating braces
Angel Aligner invisible braces
The Angle Aligner is an invisible, transparent aligner system that is removable, giving the wearer more freedom.
This system is produced by creating special, custom-made pairs of aligners that gradually align the teeth to the desired position.
Ideal for those looking for a discreet and comfortable solution to correct their teeth.

Frequently asked questions
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Orthodontic treatment usually lasts between 12 and 24 months, but this depends on the condition of the teeth and the treatment plan. More complex cases can take longer, while simpler misalignments can be corrected more quickly.
At what age braces are recommended?
Orthodontics can be performed at any age, in children and adults. Although adolescent treatment is the most common, adult orthodontics is also becoming increasingly popular, thanks to aesthetic, invisible solutions.
Is wearing braces painful?
Braces are not painful to fit, but you may experience some sensitivity or discomfort for the first few days as your teeth start to move. This sensation usually goes away in a few days and mild painkillers can help if necessary.
Is wearing braces visible?
Traditional metal braces are visible, but aesthetic, transparent braces are now available, such as porcelain braces or invisible aligners. These allow a more discreet treatment, especially for adults.
How do braces affect eating?
Certain foods, such as sticky, hard foods should be avoided as they can damage the braces. Minimal changes in your diet is necessary and your favourite food can still be consumed with some care.
How often do I have to come back for a check-up?
Regular check-ups are every 4-6 weeks, where the braces are fine-tuned by a specialist. These check-ups are important to monitor the progress of the treatment and make any necessary adjustments.
What care does wearing braces require?
Wearing braces requires increased attention to oral hygiene. Special toothbrushes, interdental brushes and mouthwashes help to keep teeth clean and prevent plaque build-up and gingivitis.
How long should I wear a retainer after orthodontic treatment?
After the braces are removed, a retention appliance must be worn to keep the teeth in their new position. The period of retention varies, but it is usually necessary to wear the appliance for several months or even years to achieve a lasting result.
